How I Build Your Website
No Mystery, No Jargon, No Surprises
The person you speak to is the person who builds your site. No handoffs, no middlemen, no "I'll check with the developer." Five clear steps from first conversation to a website that works for your business.
Five Steps to a Website That Works
Every project follows the same honest process. No hidden stages, no scope creep, no "we'll figure it out as we go." You know what's happening at every point.
The Conversation
It starts with a phone call or a message. I want to understand your business — not just what you want the website to look like, but what it needs to do. Who are your customers? How do they find you now? What's working, and what isn't? This isn't a sales pitch. It's me figuring out whether I can genuinely help, and being honest if I can't.
I'll look at your current site (if you have one), your competitors, and the search landscape in your area. By the end of this conversation, you'll have a clear picture of what I'd recommend and why — even if you decide not to go ahead. That initial thinking is free. It always has been.
Most of my clients tell me this conversation alone was more useful than anything their previous web designer ever told them. That's not a boast — it's what 26 years of pattern recognition does. I've seen what works and what doesn't across hundreds of small business websites.
Research and Planning
Before I write a line of code, I do the homework. Keyword research tells me exactly what your potential customers are searching for. Competitor analysis shows me what you're up against and where the gaps are. I map out every page your site needs, the content structure for each one, and how the whole thing fits together for both visitors and search engines.
This is where most web designers skip straight to picking colours and fonts. I don't. A beautiful website that nobody finds is just an expensive business card. The SEO foundations are built into the plan from the start, not bolted on afterwards.
You'll receive a clear plan: which pages, what content, how they link together, and what each page is designed to achieve. Nothing starts until you're happy with the direction.
Design and Build
This is where things move quickly. I build on modern technology — Astro for business websites, Shopify for ecommerce — and the results are tangible from day one. Your site goes up on a live preview link within the first few days. You can see it, share it, test it on your phone. No waiting weeks for a static mockup in a PDF.
The speed comes from infrastructure, not from cutting corners. I've built systems that handle the repetitive work — the technical SEO setup, the performance optimisation, the responsive layouts — so I can spend my time on what actually matters: making your site communicate the right things to the right people. A standard business site typically takes 1-2 weeks. Ecommerce builds on Shopify run 3-4 weeks because there's more to configure.
Throughout the build, you have access to the preview. If something doesn't feel right, I'd rather hear about it on day three than discover it at launch. There are no surprises because you're watching the whole thing come together.
Review and Refinement
You review the site. Not a presentation, not a screen share where I talk over you — you sit with it, click through it, show it to people you trust. Then you tell me what needs changing. Every project includes revision rounds because getting it right matters more than getting it done.
I'll also run the technical checks: page speed scores, mobile responsiveness across real devices, broken link scans, accessibility audit, and a full SEO review to make sure every page is properly indexed and structured. The performance targets aren't aspirational — they're measured. Every site I launch targets 90+ on Google PageSpeed.
This stage is where the difference between a web designer and a web professional becomes obvious. Anyone can make something that looks nice on a laptop screen. Making it fast, accessible, findable, and effective on every device — that's the work most people never see.
Launch and Ongoing Support
Launch day is straightforward because the preparation was thorough. I handle the DNS, the SSL certificate, the redirects from your old site (if there is one), the Google Search Console setup, and the analytics configuration. You don't need to understand any of that — I just need your domain login, and I'll take care of the rest.
Every project includes 30 days of post-launch support. If something needs tweaking, if you spot a typo at midnight, if your phone rings and a customer mentions something on the site that doesn't look right — call me. After that initial period, ongoing hosting, security, and support are included in your monthly plan.
But the real value starts after launch. A new website needs nurturing — content updates, SEO refinement, performance monitoring. I'm not the kind of web designer who builds it and disappears. Most of my clients have been with me for years, not because they're locked in, but because the relationship works. The person who answers the phone in year three is the same person who built the site in week one.
What Makes This Different
I'm not an agency. There's no sales team, no rotating staff, no juniors learning on your project. Here's what that actually means for you.
Same Person, Every Time
The person you speak to on the first call is the person who researches your market, writes your content, builds your site, handles your SEO, and picks up the phone six months later. There's no handoff point where context gets lost and you have to explain everything again.
Speed Without Shortcuts
A 1-2 week build sounds fast because it is. The speed comes from the technology and from 26 years of knowing what works. I'm not rushing — I'm not doing the busywork that slows agencies down. No status meetings, no project management overhead, no waiting for three people to approve a font choice.
Genuine Accountability
My satisfaction guarantee is simple: if I don't deliver what I promised, you don't pay. That's easy to offer when there's nowhere to hide. One person, one reputation, one phone number. The accountability is built into the structure.
Modern Technology
I build business sites on Astro — the same technology used by companies like Porsche and NordVPN. It produces websites that load in under a second, score 90+ on PageSpeed, and don't need constant plugin updates. For ecommerce, I use Shopify — the platform trusted by millions of businesses worldwide.
SEO From Day One
Search engine optimisation isn't a bolt-on extra. It's built into the foundations of every site — the page structure, the content strategy, the technical setup. When your site launches, it's already optimised for the keywords your customers are actually searching for. Not as an afterthought, but as the starting point.
No Upfront Costs
Pay monthly from £49. No deposit, no large invoice before you've seen anything. You're never out of pocket before the work is done. And if you ever want to leave, you can — no lock-in, no exit fees, no awkward conversations. I'd rather earn your business every month than hold you to a contract.
